Rising concerns over oil supply disruptions have boosted demand for used cooking oil (UCO), a key feedstock for biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). According to a recent report by Deutsche Welle (DW), countries that rely heavily on imported petroleum, particularly in Asia, are increasing their focus on alternative fuels as crude oil prices climb.
The growing demand for biodiesel and SAF has transformed UCO from a low-value waste product into a strategic energy resource. Producers are actively seeking additional supplies of waste oils to meet expanding renewable fuel mandates and decarbonization targets.
However, the rapid growth of the market is also creating challenges, including feedstock shortages, traceability concerns, and increased competition for available supplies. Industry observers note that while current demand is being supported by geopolitical tensions and higher oil prices, the long-term outlook remains strong due to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions from transportation.
As SAF production continues to expand worldwide, competition for UCO is expected to intensify further, reinforcing its importance in the renewable fuels sector.
