Vietnamese HRC import market falls on weak demand

The Vietnamese hot rolled coil import market continues to weaken in response to a sluggish domestic market environment,Kallanish notes.

越南钢厂下调7月国内热轧卷价格，也反映出市场放缓的态势。

Vietnamese mills’ lowering prices for their July domestic HRC allocations also reflects the slower market.

印度产热轧卷在越南市场仍最具竞争力。贸易人士称，上周二收到一份招标邀请，为3万吨厚度2毫米及以上的SS400/SAE1008印度产热轧卷，8月底前船期，价格为563美元/吨cfr越南。

Indian-origin HRC remains the most competitive in Vietnam. An invitation to bid for 30,000 tonnes of 2mm and up thickness SS400/SAE1008 Indian HRC for shipment by end-August at $563/tonne cfr Vietnam was seen last Tuesday by trading sources.

Bids were also invited for 3mm and up thickness SS400 Indian HRC at $560/t cfr Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh Cityfor shipment by mid-August last Wednesday. These bid price levels are lower than Indian HRC offers at $565-572/t cfr Vietnam during the week through 29 May.

The market has been reacting to domestic producer Hoa Phat Group’s trimming its monthly HRC prices by $13/tto around $576/t cfr Ho Chi Minh City for orders of 20,000t and above on 1 June. (see Kallanish passim).

Three days later,Formosa Ha Tinh Steel slashed its monthly HRC prices by $22/t to $579/t cif Ho Chi Minh City for same-quantity orders.

Vietnamese market sources believe that bids for Indian HRC have now slipped further to $555-560/t cfr. “Many customers are looking to bid below $560/t”, a Vietnamese trader in Hanoi says.

A small 5,000t lot of Indonesian 3mm base HRC was booked last week at $570/t cfr Vietnam. It is a combined order made up of smaller-tonnage bookings of several hundred tonnes and 1,000t, traders report. “There are Vietnamese customers with middle-sized orders and they cannot get the full discount from Hoa Phat and Hoa Phat allocations are also limited,” a trader notes.

Kallanish获悉，这笔小吨位订单将作为附加货量，随上个月印尼热轧卷大吨位订单一同发货。尽管已签署的合同规定8月发货，但这些货物将于7月和8月装运。

The small tonnage order will be shipped as an add-on quantity with the previous large tonnage order of Indonesian HRC last month. The cargoes will be shipped in July and August although the signed contract states August shipment, Kallanish understands.

Japanese 2mm and up thickness HRC was heard offered at $585/t cfr Vietnam.

一位再轧商认为，越南热轧卷需求正在下降，原因是4月和5月期间，销售情况良好的镀锌厂曾过度采购。这位再轧商表示：“他们预测涂层钢材市场将上涨，因此提前囤积热轧卷库存。”

A reroller believes that HRC demand is falling in Vietnam because of over-buying in April and May by galvanizers which were enjoying good sales. “They had forecast that the [coated steel] market will rise so they bought inventory [of HRC] in advance,” the reroller says.
