Celanese Closes South Korean Plant
On 6th June, Celanese announced the closure of its engineering materials compounding plant in Ulsan, South Korea, with manufacturing and production operations ceasing immediately. The company plans to transfer production capacity from the Ulsan plant to its facilities in Nanjing and Shenzhen in China, as well as its plant in Silvassa, India. This move is intended to enhance the production and modification capabilities for PET, PA and PBT products closer to customer bases, in order to better meet the growing demand in consumer markets.

Röhm’s US MMA Plant Comes On Stream
Recently, Röhm’s MMA plant in Bay City, Texas, USA, has reached full operating capacity, marking the world’s first industrial-scale application of its proprietary LiMA technology. The plant is the first facility in North America to produce MMA using the C2 route, with an annual capacity of 250,000 tonnes. The LiMA process offers lower energy and water consumption, and reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 42%. Supported by stable raw material supply and a digital twin system to optimise operations, the plant not only strengthens the MMA supply chain in North America but also promotes technological upgrading in the industry. Its products are widely used in automotive, construction, electronics and medical sectors.
Ⅱ、
Market Dynamics of Major Chemical Products

Naphtha CFR Japan fell by 3.2% to $760.3/tonne
Plant and Market Dynamics: This week, the Asian naphtha market remained generally loose. Refineries in Japan and South Korea increased naphtha output due to processing light crude, easing supply pressure. However, demand from the olefins sector remains weak, with only expectations of increased demand during the summer gasoline season providing some support.
Ethylene CFR Northeast Asia fell by 4.9% to $945/tonne
Plant and Market Dynamics:This week, the Asian ethylene market showed a weak trend overall. Significant fluctuations in crude oil and naphtha prices have intensified market divergence. Meanwhile, several units have resumed operations, raising expectations of increased supply in July, while end-user demand remains persistently weak. As a result, trading has been sluggish with a strong wait-and-see sentiment.
Benzene FOB South Korea fell by 1.9% to $980.9/tonne
Plant and Market Dynamics: This week, Asian benzene prices fluctuated within a range under the alternating influence of crude oil and downstream styrene markets. Markets in Europe and the US continued to soften, with supply gradually becoming ample and downstream buyers showing limited purchasing enthusiasm, leading to thin trading.
Paraxylene CFR China rose by 1.8% to $1,147.7/tonne
Plant and Market Dynamics:This week, the Asian PX prices moved higher, supported by low operating rates, tight spot supply, and recovering demand from downstream PTA and polyester sectors. Prices in Europe remained stable, while US prices edged slightly lower.
